The marketing claim
“Cuts baked-on grease without scrubbing”
The chemical reality
This is not Cillit Bang Limescale. The grease trigger’s classified anionic on the kitchen-degreaser SDS is linear alkylbenzene sulfonate (LAS, CAS 85536-14-7) at under 3%. Fairy is SLES — a different sulphate. Dilute LAS 96% paste to about 3% and you have the same grease-cut without the orange-bottle tax.

The Marketing Claim & The Catch
A 750 millilitres pack of Cillit Bang Grease & Sparkle Power Cleaner typically retails around £3.50 in household cleaning. That is a UK shelf-price snapshot for the maths on this page — not a live shop quote or a manufacturer RRP. Listings, sizes and deals move. The marketing line is that you are buying a finished lifestyle product, not a weighed chemical.
On the pack: Cuts baked-on grease without scrubbing; Kitchen degreaser for hobs, splashbacks and worktops; and Bang and the dirt is gone.

Proprietary Blend & Dosage Breakdown
The labelled active is Linear alkylbenzene sulfonate (LAS) at 3%. Everything else in the pack is water, non-ionic surfactant and perfume.
At 3% active, most of what you pay for is carrier and packaging. The brand is selling convenience, fragrance and a label — not a uniquely potent molecule.
Branded working strength is whatever comes out of the bottle. The bulk alternative is 96% LAS 96% paste (linear alkylbenzene sulfonate), mixed to 30 g paste per litre (≈3% w/v — kitchen degreaser band).

The Active Chemical Alternative (Dupe Stack)
The dupe stack is LAS 96% paste (linear alkylbenzene sulfonate) at 96% bulk. Indexed as CAS 85536-14-7, formula C18H30O3SNa. Buy it as 1 kg for around £12.50 from Amazon UK.

Follow the mixing method and the supplier SDS. Wear the listed PPE. Do not mix incompatible oxidisers, acids or ammonia.
- Irritant to eyes and skin. Gloves. Warm the paste slightly if it is stiff. Do not mix with bleach, acids or quat biocides.
- Weigh 30 g of 96% LAS paste into a jug and make up to 1 litre with warm water. Stir until dissolved. That is about 3% — the classified LAS band on the kitchen-degreaser SDS.
- Spray onto a cold hob or splashback, dwell a minute, wipe and rinse. Keep foam modest; residue feels soapy if you overdose.
- 1 kg of paste at 30 g/L makes about 33 litres of working spray — more than forty 750 ml bottles.
- This is a kitchen degreaser, not a limescale acid and not Fairy 2% washing-up liquor. Label the bottle.

Active ingredient and cheaper alternative — FAQ
Is Grease & Sparkle the same as Cillit Bang limescale spray?
No. Limescale Cillit Bang is an acid (citric and/or sulfamic). Grease & Sparkle is an anionic surfactant degreaser (LAS). Different SDS, different job. Never mix the grease bottle with bleach or a toilet acid.
Is LAS the same as Fairy washing-up liquid?
Same job family (anionic grease-cutters) but different molecules. Fairy is sodium laureth sulphate (SLES, CAS 68585-34-2). This spray is LAS (CAS 85536-14-7). Both cancel quat biocides — do not pour either into Patio Magic or Zoflora.
How do you mix the Grease & Sparkle Power Cleaner dupe stack?
Irritant to eyes and skin. Gloves. Warm the paste slightly if it is stiff. Do not mix with bleach, acids or quat biocides. Weigh 30 g of 96% LAS paste into a jug and make up to 1 litre with warm water. Stir until dissolved. That is about 3% — the classified LAS band on the kitchen-degreaser SDS. Spray onto a cold hob or splashback, dwell a minute, wipe and rinse. Keep foam modest; residue feels soapy if you overdose. 1 kg of paste at 30 g/L makes about 33 litres of working spray — more than forty 750 ml bottles. This is a kitchen degreaser, not a limescale acid and not Fairy 2% washing-up liquor. Label the bottle.
