What the pack promises versus what the label chemistry actually is.
The marketing claim
“Shifts stains, oil and grease on patios and driveways”
The chemical reality
This is not Patio Magic (BAC) and it is not Mortar Clen (HCl). KilrockPRO is a dilute alkaline masonry degreaser — disodium metasilicate (CAS 6834-92-0) with soda ash and a chelator. Metasilicate pentahydrate crystals mixed at about 30 g/L match the bottle strength; then dilute 1:20 for light stains as the pack does.

The Marketing Claim & The Catch
A 5 litres pack of KilrockPRO Patio, Driveway & Masonry Cleaner typically retails around £14.00 in patio & exterior. That is a UK shelf-price snapshot for the maths on this page — not a live shop quote or a manufacturer RRP. Listings, sizes and deals move. The marketing line is that you are buying a finished lifestyle product, not a weighed chemical.
On the pack: Shifts stains, oil and grease on patios and driveways; Non-acidic super concentrate — up to 100 litres / 250 m²; and Pressure-washer compatible.

Proprietary Blend & Dosage Breakdown
The labelled active is Disodium metasilicate at 3%. Everything else in the pack is water, sodium carbonate, edta and glycol ether.
At 3% active, most of what you pay for is carrier and packaging. The brand is selling convenience, fragrance and a label — not a uniquely potent molecule.
Branded working strength is whatever comes out of the bottle. The bulk alternative is 100% Sodium metasilicate pentahydrate, mixed to 30 g/L (≈ bottle strength), then 1:20 for light stains.

The Active Chemical Alternative (Dupe Stack)
The dupe stack is Sodium metasilicate pentahydrate at 100% bulk. Indexed as CAS 10213-79-3, formula Na2SiO3·5H2O. Buy it as 1 kg for around £12.00 from Amazon UK.
Working strength: 30 g/L (≈ bottle strength), then 1:20 for light stains. Indicative cost £0.36 per diluted litre — 87% below a typical branded pack on a per-litre basis, before you reuse leftover bulk.
Follow the mixing method and the supplier SDS. Wear the listed PPE. Do not mix incompatible oxidisers, acids or ammonia.
- Causes burns. Nitrile gloves, splash goggles, outdoor ventilation. Always add powder to water. Never mix with acids or bleach.
- Dissolve 30 g of metasilicate pentahydrate per litre of cold water to land near the branded concentrate (SDS lists 1–5% disodium metasilicate in the jerry).
- Light stains: dilute that liquor 1:20 (250 ml into 5 L), scrub or brush, rinse. Heavy stains: 1:10. Oil patches: work a stronger paste and rinse thoroughly.
- Pressure washer: about 30 ml of concentrate-strength liquor per litre of feed water — follow your washer’s detergent guidance.
- 1 kg makes about 33 litres of bottle-strength liquor (then hundreds of litres of working wash). Keep off aluminium, galvanised steel and painted softwoods. Neutralise residues with a water rinse.

Active ingredient and cheaper alternative — FAQ
Is KilrockPRO a patio biocide like Wet & Forget?
No. Wet & Forget and Patio Magic are quaternary ammonium biocides for algae film. KilrockPRO is an alkaline metasilicate degreaser for oil, grease and traffic grime. Different job. Use a quat for green film; use metasilicate for oily concrete.
Is this the same as soda ash or caustic soda?
Related alkalis, different salts. Soda ash is sodium carbonate (pool pH Plus). Caustic soda is sodium hydroxide (Oven Pride). Metasilicate is Na₂SiO₃ — a detergent builder that lifts grease on masonry. Do not treat them as drop-in swaps, and keep all three off aluminium and soft paint.
How do you mix the Patio, Driveway & Masonry Cleaner dupe stack?
Causes burns. Nitrile gloves, splash goggles, outdoor ventilation. Always add powder to water. Never mix with acids or bleach.
