Label teardown

What the pack promises versus what the label chemistry actually is.

The marketing claim

“Acid-free oxygen bubbles lift algae, mildew and grime”

The chemical reality

Logco’s Eco patio powder is sodium percarbonate (CAS 15630-89-4) — the same solid peroxide adduct as Vanish Oxi, sold as a 5 kg outdoor tub. Fifty grams per litre of warm water is the deck/patio band (about 5 m²/L). It is not BAC, not DDAC and not hypochlorite. A technical 5 kg sack is the same oxidiser without the decking label.

The Marketing Claim & The Catch

A 5 kg tub pack of Logco Eco Patio & Decking Cleaner typically retails around £29.99 in patio & exterior. That is a UK shelf-price snapshot for the maths on this page — not a live shop quote or a manufacturer RRP. Listings, sizes and deals move. The marketing line is that you are buying a finished lifestyle product, not a weighed chemical.

On the pack: Acid-free oxygen bubbles lift algae, mildew and grime; Breaks down to oxygen, water and soda ash; and Decking, stone, concrete, plastic and fabrics — up to 5 m² per litre.

Proprietary Blend & Dosage Breakdown

The labelled active is Sodium percarbonate (oxygen bleach) at 88%. Everything else in the pack is sodium carbonate (soda ash) remainder.

Even when the pack is sold as “pure” or ready-to-use, the dose that actually does the work is Sodium percarbonate (oxygen bleach). The rest is how they get it into a bottle you will pick up.

Branded working strength is whatever comes out of the bottle. The bulk alternative is 88% Sodium percarbonate (technical oxygen bleach), mixed to 50 g/L warm water (deck/patio band; ~5 m² per working litre).

The Active Chemical Alternative (Dupe Stack)

The dupe stack is Sodium percarbonate (technical oxygen bleach) at 88% bulk. Indexed as CAS 15630-89-4, formula 2Na2CO3·3H2O2. Buy it as 5 kg for around £15.00 from Amazon UK.

Working strength: 50 g/L warm water (deck/patio band; ~5 m² per working litre). Indicative cost £0.15 per diluted litre — 50% below a typical branded pack on a per-litre basis, before you reuse leftover bulk.

Follow the mixing method and the supplier SDS. Wear the listed PPE. Do not mix incompatible oxidisers, acids or ammonia.

  1. Oxidiser. Gloves and goggles. Keep away from acids, hypochlorite bleach and combustibles. Store dry — damp powder cakes and loses strength.
  2. Sweep loose debris. Dissolve 50 g of technical percarbonate per litre of warm (not boiling) water. Each litre covers about 5 m² of decking or paving.
  3. Apply, dwell 30–60 minutes, scrub with a stiff patio brush, rinse. Repeat on stubborn organic film. Keep off ponds until diluted and rinsed; test colour on painted timber.
  4. 5 kg at 50 g/L makes 100 litres of working liquor — about 500 m² at the 5 m²/L coverage. That is the same salt as a branded 5 kg patio tub, without the outdoor-label tax.
  5. This is not a leave-on quat (Patio Magic / Wet & Forget / Jeyes 4-in-1) and not a hypochlorite black-spot gel. Never mix oxygen powder with bleach or acids in one bucket.

Active ingredient and cheaper alternative — FAQ

Is this the same as Patio Magic or Wet & Forget?

No. Those are benzalkonium chloride (BAC) walk-away biocides. This is sodium percarbonate — an oxygen bleach you dissolve, scrub and rinse. Different molecule, different PPE, never mixed with a quat or with hypochlorite.

Is this the same as Vanish Oxi Action?

Same salt (sodium percarbonate, CAS 15630-89-4). Vanish is a scented laundry soak at about 20 g/L. Patio/deck oxygen powders use a stronger 50–60 g/L outdoor band and a scrub. Do not treat a pink laundry tub as a drop-in patio bottle without redoing the dose.

How do you mix the Eco Patio & Decking Cleaner dupe stack?

Oxidiser. Gloves and goggles. Keep away from acids, hypochlorite bleach and combustibles. Store dry — damp powder cakes and loses strength. Sweep loose debris. Dissolve 50 g of technical percarbonate per litre of warm (not boiling) water. Each litre covers about 5 m² of decking or paving. Apply, dwell 30–60 minutes, scrub with a stiff patio brush, rinse. Repeat on stubborn organic film. Keep off ponds until diluted and rinsed; test colour on painted timber. 5 kg at 50 g/L makes 100 litres of working liquor — about 500 m² at the 5 m²/L coverage.
