The marketing claim
“Combined insecticide and fungicide for roses”
The chemical reality
Doff Rose Shield RTU is cypermethrin at 0.05 g/L plus myclobutanil at 0.075 g/L — a pyrethroid and a triazole in one trigger. Cypermethrin (CAS 52315-07-8) is not permethrin ant dust and not Provanto deltamethrin. The fungus half is the Rose Clear molecule. Dilute a householder-labelled cypermethrin concentrate to 50 ppm for the bug job.

The Marketing Claim & The Catch
A 1 litre pack of Doff Rose & Shrub Shield Bug & Fungus Killer typically retails around £5.50 in lawn & garden. That is a UK shelf-price snapshot for the maths on this page — not a live shop quote or a manufacturer RRP. Listings, sizes and deals move. The marketing line is that you are buying a finished lifestyle product, not a weighed chemical.
On the pack: Combined insecticide and fungicide for roses; Kills aphids and helps control rust and blackspot; and Ready-to-use 1 litre trigger.
The catch: Doff Rose Shield RTU is cypermethrin at 0.05 g/L plus myclobutanil at 0.075 g/L — a pyrethroid and a triazole in one trigger. Cypermethrin (CAS 52315-07-8) is not permethrin ant dust and not Provanto deltamethrin. The fungus half is the Rose Clear molecule. Proprietary Blend & Dosage Breakdown
The labelled active is Cypermethrin (with myclobutanil) at 0.005%. Everything else in the pack is water, emulsifiers and a labelled myclobutanil dose.
At 0.005% active, most of what you pay for is carrier and packaging. The brand is selling convenience, fragrance and a label — not a uniquely potent molecule.
Branded working strength is whatever comes out of the bottle. The bulk alternative is 0.5% Cypermethrin 5 g/L amateur emulsion (diluted to 50 ppm), mixed to 10 ml of 5 g/L made up to 1 L (≈0.05 g/L — Rose Shield RTU).

The Active Chemical Alternative (Dupe Stack)
The dupe stack is Cypermethrin 5 g/L amateur emulsion (diluted to 50 ppm) at 0.5% bulk. Indexed as CAS 52315-07-8, formula C22H19Cl2NO3. Buy it as 250 millilitres for around £12.99 from Amazon UK.
Working strength: 10 ml of 5 g/L made up to 1 L (≈0.05 g/L — Rose Shield RTU). Indicative cost £0.52 per diluted litre — 85% below a typical branded pack on a per-litre basis, before you reuse leftover bulk.
Follow the mixing method and the supplier SDS. Wear the listed PPE. Do not mix incompatible oxidisers, acids or ammonia.
- Pesticide: very toxic to aquatic life and bees when spray is wet. Read the MAPP label on the pack you buy. Gloves, goggles. Spray at dusk if bees are foraging; keep off ponds and water butts.
- Measure 10 ml of a householder-labelled 5 g/L cypermethrin emulsion into a litre of water (1:99). That is about 50 ppm — the Rose Shield RTU insecticide band.
- Spray both leaf faces until glistening. 1 litre treats about 10–20 m² of rose. Keep pets off until dry. Do not apply when bees are actively foraging.
- 250 ml of 5 g/L at 10 ml/L makes 25 litres of RTU-strength spray — twenty-five 1 L triggers. This mix is the cypermethrin half only.
- For blackspot, use the Rose Clear myclobutanil teardown — do not invent a two-active tank mix from agricultural 10% EC. Triple-rinse the sprayer.

Active ingredient and cheaper alternative — FAQ
Is this the same as Provanto Ultimate Bug Killer?
Same broad family (pyrethroid foliar sprays) but different molecules. Provanto is deltamethrin (CAS 52918-63-5). Rose Shield’s insecticide is cypermethrin (CAS 52315-07-8) at 50 ppm in the trigger. Different HSE numbers — do not swap dilutions.
Is the fungus half the same as Rose Clear Ultra?
Yes on the triazole: both use myclobutanil (CAS 88671-89-0). Rose Clear Ultra concentrate is about 0.875 g/L before you dilute; Rose Shield RTU is already 0.075 g/L. See the Rose Clear teardown for weighed technical powder — do not stack two myclobutanil sprays in one tank.
How do you mix the Rose & Shrub Shield Bug & Fungus Killer dupe stack?
Pesticide: very toxic to aquatic life and bees when spray is wet. Read the MAPP label on the pack you buy. Gloves, goggles. Spray at dusk if bees are foraging; keep off ponds and water butts. Measure 10 ml of a householder-labelled 5 g/L cypermethrin emulsion into a litre of water (1:99). That is about 50 ppm — the Rose Shield RTU insecticide band. Spray both leaf faces until glistening. 1 litre treats about 10–20 m² of rose. Keep pets off until dry. Do not apply when bees are actively foraging. 250 ml of 5 g/L at 10 ml/L makes 25 litres of RTU-strength spray — twenty-five 1 L triggers. This mix is the cypermethrin half only. For blackspot, use the Rose Clear myclobutanil teardown — do not invent a two-active tank mix from agricultural 10% EC. Triple-rinse the sprayer.
